‘Terrifying Footage’: Internet Rallies in Prayer After Violent 7.8 Earthquake Hits Philippines | Video
A massive and terrifying 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck near General Santos City in the Philippines on June 8, 2026, leaving local residents in shock and social media flooded with updates. The shallow quake, which hit off the coast of Sarangani province in southern Mindanao, was located about 25 to 30 kilometers from the shore near General Santos. It struck with massive force, sending violent side-to-side shaking through the region, a movement that older or poorly built structures just couldn’t handle.
A wave of concern broke out online after terrifying footage caught the heartbreaking moment a multi-story commercial building completely pancaked.
Social media users quickly gathered to share information, extend prayers, and process the sheer force of the disaster. One user wrote, “Terrifying footage Heartbreaking to see that building pancake like that in General Santos. Grateful the Jollibee staff got out safely in time prayers up for the one confirmed fatality and anyone still in rescue ops.”
Another added: “Stay strong, Philippines! 7.8 is no joke. Hope everyone else is accounted for and aftershocks stay manageable”. Other users chimed in with similar prayers: “I am deeply saddened by this incident. Hopefully, there are no fatalities 🥺🥀”
One user added that the building that collapsed was a commercial establishment. “That Jollibee was in a multi-story commercial building that pancaked fast. Philippines has solid earthquake codes, but enforcement isn’t always perfect, especially on commercial spots. Lucky the staff got out in time though. Rescues are still going on, one confirmed dead.”
