The TMC MP alleged that Swiggy cancelled her food order without her consent while charging the full amount as a cancellation fee.

Mahua Moitra Calls Out Swiggy After ₹1,457 Order Is Cancelled; Says She Was Charged Full ‘Cancellation Fee’
Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has called out Swiggy on X after alleging that the food delivery platform cancelled her order and charged her the full bill amount of ₹1,457 as a “cancellation fee.”
In her post, Moitra wrote: “Hello @Swiggy this is 3rd time you arbitrarily cancelled my order and have charged me full bill amount ₹1457 as ‘cancellation fee’. No dinner & no service help from anyone.”
Swiggy responded soon after, saying: “We totally get how frustrating this can be, Mahua. We’re reaching out to you right away. We’ll review the order cancellation and the associated charges with you and work towards a resolution without any further ado.”
The exchange quickly went viral, with users questioning what had happened.
One user asked whether the order had been cancelled by the customer or the platform itself, writing: “Swiggy should confirm whether the customer cancelled the order herself after waiting too long for the delivery, or if Swiggy cancelled the order and charged her incorrectly. Thank you.”
Mahua Moitra replied directly to clarify her version of events: “I didnt cancel . I kept waiting. They cancelled randomly and sent me email after saying they were charging me full amouny.”
Many users said they had experienced similar issues. One commented: “Moreover they have implemented too much AI in their customer service that it’s almost impossible to reach a human agent who can understand your basic problems.”
Another urged the company to make amends: “@Swiggy dear Swiggy, how can you do this, please talk to @MahuaMoitra ji and offer her complimentary dinner and don’t cancel order from your own, ask the cx first , and then do the needful.”
Others claimed they had stopped using food delivery apps over similar complaints.
“Deleted @swiggy in December 2024.. for same reason. Supplier cancelled the order and they are still waiting for me to pay 496 INR as cancellation fee. No even allowing me to delete my account 🧐
2-Deleted @zomato 2 days ago for same issue. Why TF they are charging customers if their supplier cancels the order?
Finding a new food delivery app now.”

Not everyone focused on the delivery issue itself. One user referenced another ongoing national issue, writing:
“Over there, Sonam Wangchuk is sitting on a hunger strike, and she’s ordering from Swiggy 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️.”
Another took a swipe at Swiggy’s alleged handling of the order: “Wow @Swiggy , cancelling the order yourself and then charging the customer the full amount as a “cancellation fee” is certainly an innovative business model. 👏
No food, no service, no support… but the full bill. That’s not convenience, that’s daylight robbery.”
Customers can file complaints through the National Consumer Helpline by calling 1915 or via the NCH app or the consumerhelpline.gov.in portal if they are charged additional fees like a ‘gas crisis charge’ without consent.
