A US citizen is weighing a Rs 50 LPA remote leadership role in India against a $115,000 remote job in America, but one detail has made the decision far more complicated

A US citizen is struggling to choose between two high-paying remote jobs, one in the United States and the other in India. While the salary in India is attractive, one condition attached to the role has made the decision far more difficult.
Unsure about what would be the better long-term move, the man turned to Reddit for advice. He wanted opinions on whether career growth, lifestyle or future opportunities should matter more while making such a decision.
A Choice Between Two Careers
The Reddit user explained that he is a US citizen and currently has two job offers on the table. One is a business analyst role in the US that pays around $115,000 a year, along with a 10 per cent bonus and stock options. The job is fully remote and follows regular daytime working hours.
The second offer is from India, where he has been offered a senior support manager role with a fixed salary of around Rs 48–50 lakh per year. The position is also remote but comes with the responsibility of managing a team of about 20 people.
He shared his dilemma in a Reddit post titled, “50LPA in India (Senior support Manager) or $115k in USA (Business analyst) need to make decision quickly! Help!!”
One Condition Worries Him
Although the Indian role offers a senior designation, it comes with permanent night shifts. According to the post, the work timings are from 9:30 PM to 6:30 AM IST, with a possibility of changing to 5:30 PM to 2:00 AM in the future, though that is not guaranteed.
The man also wondered if accepting the Indian job would affect his chances of returning to the US job market after two to four years. “Would U.S. employers value this experience, or would stepping away from the U.S. job market make returning difficult?” he asked.
He also wanted to know what others would choose: “Higher U.S. salary with a normal daytime schedule, or a leadership role in India with a permanent night shift?”
The Reddit user added that, since he is a US citizen, he would not have to worry about visa sponsorship if he decided to move back later.
Reddit Users Share Their Views
The post received several responses, with users offering different perspectives. A person wrote, “Financially, it’s a no-brainer. 50LPA in India gets you much more than 115k in the US. Based on what you say, if your work hours are fixed, you probably won’t have to put in 10-12 hours a day in India. Ultimately, it will come down to where you want to live – the US or India.”
Another user disagreed, saying, “I would never take a night shift job. The impact on your health and family life is too much.”
A person advised him to think about his long-term career plans. “If you don’t see the role in India as mostly permanent, don’t go for it. It’s a good salary in India, and you’ll have a better quality of life, but it might set your career back if you want to return to the US. Why are you moving to India?”
Replying to the comment, the original poster said, “No reason, honestly. I don’t have kids or a wife. I thought it was a good opportunity as it’s a senior manager position. The U.S. position is a junior-level analyst position. That’s the only thing I’m having an issue with.”
Another user pointed out that his US citizenship gives him flexibility. “If you are a US citizen, then you don’t need to worry. You always have an option to come back and try again. That is a huge flexibility… But ultimately it depends on what you want.”
