The One Town police on Friday arrested two persons and took into custody a juvenile in connection with the murder of a 69-year-old woman and the theft of her gold ornaments in the One Town area on July 14.

Addressing a press conference in Vijayawada, Deputy Commissioner of Police G. Ramakrishna said the police arrested M. Somashekar and B. Narendra and apprehended a 17-year-old boy. The stolen gold ornaments and other valuables were recovered intact.

The victim, Vijaya Lakshmi, was found murdered at her house in Marwadi Veedhi. According to the police, Somashekar, a distant relative of the victim, used to visit her house frequently and was aware that she was living alone, as her daughter resides in the United States. He allegedly hatched a plan to rob her.

One Town Circle Inspector B. Gunaram said the accused allegedly asphyxiated the woman to death in broad daylight before fleeing with the valuables.

West Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police N.S.V.K. Durga Rao said the accused were identified through CCTV footage, fingerprints and other scientific evidence collected during the investigation. During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to the crime.
