If you are studying far away from home, you quickly realize that learning how to make every single penny count is an important survival skill. Recently, an Indian student in France shared her monthly expenses online and the internet could not stop talking about one surprisingly low number. (Representative Image: Pexels)

Though most of her budget looked fairly expected, it was one number that completely left everyone shocked: her grocery bill. The student shared an Instagram video to share a breakdown of her monthly expenses as an international student. (Representative Image: Pexels)

In the video, the student has said that she spends around 750 euros (nearly Rs 81000) every month to cover all her living costs. The rent takes the biggest bite out of her budget. She revealed that she pays 550 euros (Rs 60,000) for a shared apartment, and she shares the accommodation with some people. She further added that she spends just 100 euros (Rs 10,000) on groceries every month and cooks most of her meals instead of just depending on takeout or eating out regularly. While some users praised her budgeting skills, some other users weren’t buying it claiming it to be misleading. Many social media users claimed they spent significantly more on groceries every month, even while cooking at home, and questioned whether surviving on 100 euro in France was actually realistic. Altogether, her monthly estimates come to around 750 euros (Rs 81,00). She mentioned that the total amount depends heavily on where you live and what your personal lifestyle looks like, but added her spending offers a realistic snapshot of what international student life in France can look like.
