Vadodara: It’s a bird rarely spotted in central Gujarat, but a mother-daughter duo recently got a rare glimpse of a Eurasian hobby in Sundarpura on the outskirts of the city. An elegant falcon, this bird is usually spotted in the Little Rann of Kutch.“I spotted the Eurasian hobby perched on a tree from a distance and immediately clicked a picture of it. I couldn’t identify it initially so I consulted some experts who confirmed that it was a Eurasian hobby,” said Prajakta Kulkarni, who was out birding with her daughter Durga.“This bird is usually spotted here at this time of the year,” Kulkarni added. In the past, birders have spotted this falcon a couple of the times in and around the city. This falcon preys on small birds and insects and it prefers open, wooded areas.
