At a time when there is widespread debate on civic sense, public conduct and civic responsibilities among Indians, a man travelling to a mountainous region has sparked anger as he decided to litter the pristine landscape. He was then schooled by a foreign tourist.
In a video shared on X, the foreign tourist was seen confronting the Indian traveller for littering the fragile mountain ecosystem. The foreigner was on a motorcycle while the Indian man was in a car.
The post alleged that the foreigner noticed the Indian tourist throwing a piece of trash outside the window of the vehicle. He then stepped in to object to the littering.
The clip, recorded by the foreigner himself, showed him getting down from his vehicle with the plastic wrapper in his hand. Once he reached the door of the four-wheeler, he shoved the trash inside after being furious about the Indian man’s action. He was then heard yelling an expletive at the Indian tourist before starting his bike and moving forward with the traffic.
“He had just thrown the garbage out of the window,” was written over the video in Spanish. Later in the clip, he asked, “Was I too rude?”
The post was shared with the caption, “A foreign tourist had to confront an Indian for littering today. Imagine visiting a country and ending up teaching locals not to throw garbage in such a beautiful and fragile ecosystem. What a shame. At the pace we’re going, it feels like it’ll take another 100 years for people to learn this basic civic sense.”
While the exact location was not shared, the video has drawn widespread attention with many users expressing their disappointment with such repeated cases every other day.
An individual commented, “Littering in Ladakh should be treated as a heinous crime. You are bringing filth to one of the most secluded and serene places on earth. These people don’t deserve to visit Ladakh, they shouldn’t be allowed there.”
“The source of our misery is our current upbringing at home. Manners and civic sense and duties are taught by patents and inside a family structure which we are failing,” one user explained.

“100 years? I’m sorry to break it to you, but it usually that’s 2-3 generations to bring this kinda change at a country level. And India is a special case, so it might take 4-5 generations,” shared a person.
Another person demanded, “Seize the vehicle wherever it is seen. Not have proper punishment is the cause for all these trashers destroying a beautiful country.”
“Unless everyone is monitored, which is impossible in the outback. Glad someone is courageous enough to call them out,” someone else said while praising the foreigner.
