Vedant Srivastava’s CBSE Class 12 re-evaluation ended with just a two-mark increase, while his controversial Physics answer-sheet case saw no further change, sparking fresh debate

After weeks of controversy surrounding an alleged answer sheet mix-up, CBSE class 12 student Vedant Srivastava has received the outcome of his re-evaluation. While he had sought a review of multiple answers across different subjects, the process resulted in only a marginal increase in his overall score, with no additional marks awarded in Physics.
Sharing the update through a video on X, Vedant revealed that he had applied for the re-evaluation of 11 questions spanning different subjects. However, the final outcome added only two marks to his total score, one extra mark in Mathematics and another in Computer Science. His Physics marks, which had earlier become the centre of a nationwide controversy, remained unchanged.
“Not even a single mark was increased in my Physics paper,” Vedant said in the video, expressing disappointment over the final result.
Vedant’s case first came into the spotlight after he alleged that the Physics answer sheet provided to him by CBSE during the verification process did not belong to him.
Instead, he claimed he had received another student’s answer book, raising concerns about the board’s post-result verification process and the reliability of its newly introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.
As the issue gained traction on social media, CBSE acknowledged that an accidental exchange of answer sheets had taken place during the post-result process. The board subsequently shared Vedant’s actual Physics answer script for verification.
Following the correction, Vedant’s Physics score was revised from 65 to 74 marks. Believing that several answers in the corrected answer sheet still deserved additional marks, he submitted a fresh application for re-evaluation. However, the latest review did not result in any further increase in his Physics score.
Vedant later confirmed on X that the two additional marks awarded during re-evaluation were unrelated to the answer-sheet exchange. “In the case of the answer sheet exchange, there isn’t a single mark increased. The marks that have increased are in maths, where 1 mark has increased, and one in computer science,” he wrote.
The incident has become one of the most discussed cases surrounding the implementation of CBSE’s digital evaluation process this year. According to reports, the board received an unprecedented number of applications for verification and re-evaluation, with nearly 1.6 lakh students seeking review across more than four lakh answer books.
Many students raised concerns ranging from blurred scanned copies and missing pages to alleged mismatches in answer sheets, while some candidates reported substantial increases in marks after re-evaluation.
As of June 21, CBSE had reportedly released revised results for over 87 per cent of Class 12 students who had applied for re-evaluation. However, thousands of candidates were still awaiting their updated results, leading to concerns as university admission deadlines draw closer.
Vedant’s latest post also attracted numerous reactions from social media users, many of whom shared similar experiences with the re-evaluation process.
“Same with me. Looks like CBSE didn’t rescan my answer book which was missing 4 pages, worth 10 marks. re-eval resulted in “no change”. @vineetJindal19,” wrote one user.
Another commented, “Same here, even though its worth 25 marks.”
A third user questioned the pace of the review process, saying, “After 21 days only 87 percent copies were checked during revaluation and CBSE checked 95 lakhs copies with in 20 days.”
