Kanpur: A purported intimate moment, picked up by a CCTV camera and leaked most likely by an insider, has led to suspension of an “unsuspecting” constable and a departmental inquiry against the trainee woman constable who allegedly committed the “offence”.Purportedly, constable Arvind Patel, posted at Orai Kotwali in Kanpur as a munshi, is on night duty in control room on June 20, engrossed in work at a computer, when the trainee woman constable enters the room, in plain clothes, and approaches him from behind before kissing him unexpectedly.Patel gets up as if to leave, but the woman constable stops him, engaging him in a conversation.Patel picks up a register from a file and returns to his work at the computer, after which the woman constable again comes close and repeats the act. When she hears footsteps outside, she moves towards the gate, checks out the corridor, and then returns to the control room. A while later, Patel is seen arranging files while the woman constable sits on a chair near him.The entire sequence, purportedly caught on a two-minute video clip, found its way to the social media on Thursday. On Friday, hell broke loose. Patel was suspended and a departmental probe ordered against the trainee constable. To be sure, the footage also shows the male constable rising from his chair, apparently attempting to distance himself from the woman constable. But obviously, that wasn’t enough.Senior officers have found the incident an act of indiscipline.SP Vinay Kumar Singh said Patel was suspended following a preliminary inquiry.“Discipline is paramount in the police department. Any kind of indiscipline or conduct-related complaint during duty will be taken seriously,” Singh said. “Based on the inquiry report, strict action will also be taken against the trainee constable.”
