CHENNAI: At least two people died and more than 40 others were hospitalised after an ammonia gas leak at a private seafood and shrimp processing factory in Manjankaranai near Periyapalayam in Tamil Nadu‘s Tiruvallur district on Sunday.According to officials, workers and others present at the facility reportedly fainted after inhaling the leaked gas. The affected persons were rushed to nearby hospitals, where two were declared dead, while over 40 others are undergoing treatment.Emergency services and district authorities rushed to the spot soon after the incident was reported. The area was secured and efforts were undertaken to contain the leak and prevent further exposure.Further details are awaited.
