GST inspector in Maharashtra held in Rs 10,000 graft case

Mumbai: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), on Thursday, arrested a state tax inspector of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from an applicant seeking a GST registration number.The accused has been identified as Sandeep Khalate, posted at GST Department Nodal-7, Mazgaon. According to the ACB, the complainant applied online for a GST number and was allegedly asked by Khalate to pay Rs 10,000 for processing and issuing the registration. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB’s Worli unit.Subsequently, a trap was laid on Wednesday. Khalate was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of Rs 10,000 from the complainant.
