Howrah: State urban development and municipal affairs minister Agnimitra Paul on Thursday ordered a clean-up of drains, drainage channels, and canals across Howrah, warning strict action against officers and engineers if work is not done properly. She also directed stronger prevention and surveillance against dengue and other infectious diseases.In Howrah to oversee a cleanliness drive and yoga event at Ramkrishnapur Ghat, Paul emphasized the need to prevent electrocution on waterlogged streets, and warned zero tolerance for negligence.She said preparations for the Howrah Municipal Corporation polls will begin after Durga Puja.Paul alleged some Trinamool-era appointees were not working properly to damage the state’s image, and said the govt is monitoring and will act.Attendees at the event included Umesh Rai, Rudranil Ghosh, Sanjay Singh, DM P Deepap Priya, commissioner Tejaswi Rana, senior officials, sanitation and health staff, and students.
