Ahmedabad: A 41-year-old Vejalpur homemaker has filed a police complaint against her husband, exposing a 19-year marriage allegedly defined by chronic infidelity, blackmail, dowry extortion, and ultimate abandonment. The woman, who has lived in a rented flat with her 14-year-old son for the past decade, approached the Vejalpur police on Friday after discovering her husband had allegedly built an entire second life in Mumbai with another woman and a child.According to the FIR, the cracks in the marriage appeared almost immediately after their wedding in 2007, when the woman found another woman’s pregnancy report on her husband’s phone. When confronted, he allegedly turned aggressive and physically assaulted her.The abuse allegedly escalated into cybercrime and blackmail in 2015. While the complainant was pregnant, her cousin came to stay with the couple. The husband allegedly took objectionable photographs of the relative to coerce her into a physical relationship. When she resisted, he allegedly leaked the photos online, resulting in a police case. The complainant, however, stayed with him after he apologised and promised to reform.According to the complaint, the husband later moved to Mumbai under the pretext of work, leaving his family behind in Ahmedabad. In 2024, he allegedly demanded dowry, assaulting the complainant when she refused. Fearing for her safety, her family transferred approximately Rs 8 lakh to him in cash and bank transfers. The final blow came when the complainant grew suspicious of his long phone calls during a visit to Mumbai. An anonymous caller tip-off led her straight to his Mumbai residence, where she discovered he was living with another woman and their daughter. Following the confrontation, the husband cut off all financial support and abandoned his family.
