ColorOS design boss says the next iteration won’t copy Apple’s Liquid Glass

Earlier this month, a rumor from China claimed Oppo’s ColorOS 17 will be heavily inspired by Apple’s Liquid Glass design language, borrowing quite a few elements from it while keeping the effect less transparent than what Apple did in iOS 26 (it’s worth noting that Apple itself is toning down Liquid Glass’ transparency in iOS 27 while also giving you a slider to customize it).

However, it seems like that rumor was simply pure conjecture. Today, ColorOS design director Chen Xi posted on Weibo saying that ColorOS 17 will focus on improving the basic user experience, and will thus not include a big redesign. New features will also be postponed – it’s unclear if that means they will arrive in a ColorOS 17.1 or 17.5, for example, or we’ll have to wait until ColorOS 18 comes out.

ColorOS design boss says the next iteration won't copy Apple's Liquid Glass

Anyway, he claims that some of Oppo’s competitors may be pursuing a similar design to Apple’s Liquid Glass, but (at least for now) Oppo isn’t. That pretty much settles it then. What do you think? Do you like the current ColorOS design? Or would you have liked it to go the iOS way? Let us know in the comments.
