Ranchi: The southwest monsoon currents are likely to make their much-awaited entry in Jharkhand on Saturday or Sunday, bringing respite to the residents from the gruelling summer, the Ranchi office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday.Ranchi IMD deputy director Abhishek Anand said that the current condition of the southwest monsoon is indicating that it will hit the northeast parts of Jharkhand in the next four-five days.“We can hope the monsoon current will hit the northeastern districts — Deoghar, Dumka, Giridih, Godda, Jamtara, Pakur and Sahebganj districts by June 13 or 14. Following that, within the next two-three days, the monsoon currents are likely to cover the entire state,” Anand added.Last year, the southwest monsoon currents hit Jharkhand on June 17, covering most parts of the state, except some parts in Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra and some parts of Latehar, Hazaribagh and Koderma districts. Monsoon usually enters Jharkhand on June 12 and covers maximum parts by June 15.Anand added that in the next two days, the state will not record any significant change in maximum temperatures across the state. “However, from Friday, the maximum temperatures across the state will decrease by 2-3 C for three days,” he said.Ranchi on Tuesday recorded a maximum temperature of 35.9 C, recording a dip of 1.3 C from Monday. Jamshedpur recorded 38.4 C, a decrease of 2.9 C in the past 24 hours. Similarly, Daltonganj recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state, 41.4 C, recording a dip of 1.7 C, and Chaibasa recorded a maximum temperature of 37.8 C, recording a dip of 3 C from Monday. Bokaro recorded 38.1 C daytime temperature on Tuesday, recording an increase of 1 C from Monday.The met department on Tuesday issued a yellow alert anticipating thunderstorm and lightning activities in Koderma, Hazaribagh, Giridih, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Dumka, Godda, Jamtara, Pakur, Sahebganj, Bokaro, Ramgarh, Ranchi and Khunti districts on Thursday.
