Harley-Davidson X440 Variants Explained

The Harley-Davidson X440 is currently available in two variants: Vivid and S. Both versions have the same 440cc engine, chassis and overall neo-retro roadster styling. However, there are some important differences in terms of wheels, connectivity features and styling. Here’s a closer look at what each variant offers and which one makes more sense depending on your riding needs.

Harley-Davidson X440 Vivid

X440 Vivid

Price: Rs 2,35,000 (ex-showroom Delhi)

The Vivid variant is the more affordable variant, while still retaining the motorcycle’s core strengths. Visually, the bike continues to carry the same muscular neo-retro roadster styling with the round LED headlamp, sculpted fuel tank and broad stance that give the X440 its strong Harley-inspired road presence. The colour options available on this variant are Metallic Thick Red, Metallic Dark Silver, Mustard and Goldfish Silver.

The Vivid variant gets alloy wheels along with tubeless tyres, which immediately makes the motorcycle practical for everyday commuting and highway rides. The overall styling remains nearly identical to the more expensive S variant, so buyers are not really compromising much in terms of visual appeal.

Feature-wise, the Vivid variant still gets the fully digital instrument cluster and full-LED lighting setup. However, unlike the S variant, this version misses out on Bluetooth connectivity and connectivity features. So turn-by-turn navigation, call alerts and message notifications are not available here.

That said, the Vivid variant still feels fairly well-equipped overall because the motorcycle continues to offer dual-channel ABS, upside-down fork and the same torquey 440cc engine as the higher variant. Mechanically, there are absolutely no differences between the two versions.

The Vivid variant is powered by the same 440cc air and oil-cooled single-cylinder engine producing 27PS and 38Nm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The motorcycle still delivers the same relaxed riding experience and deep exhaust note that the X440 is known for.

For buyers who mainly want the Harley-Davidson badge, muscular styling and relaxed riding character without spending extra on connectivity features, the Vivid variant is a good option to consider.

Key Differences:

  • More affordable X440 variant

  • Misses out on Bluetooth connectivity features

  • Retains alloy wheels and tubeless tyres

Harley-Davidson X440 S

X440 S

Price: Rs 2,59,000 (ex-showroom)

The S variant is the more premium and feature-rich version of the Harley-Davidson X440 lineup. Visually, the motorcycle remains largely identical to the Vivid variant, but the S gets slightly more premium paint schemes and additional connectivity features that help justify the higher asking price. The colour schemes available on the S variant include Matte Black and Baja Orange.

The biggest upgrade on the S variant is the TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity. Through smartphone pairing, the motorcycle supports turn-by-turn navigation, call alerts and SMS notifications. This makes the S variant feel more modern and technologically advanced compared to the Vivid version.

Apart from the connectivity upgrades, the S variant also gets diamond-cut alloy wheels and 3D Harley-Davidson logos on the fuel tank. Other than that, the S variant continues to offer the same setup available on the Vivid variant, including upside-down fork, twin rear shock absorbers, dual-channel ABS and alloy wheels with tubeless tyres. The riding posture, suspension tuning and overall riding experience remain unchanged.

Mechanically, the variant uses the same 440cc air and oil-cooled engine. The engine’s relaxed torque delivery and smooth cruising manners remain one of the biggest highlights of the motorcycle regardless of the variant.

The S variant mainly feels targeted towards buyers who want modern features and a slightly more premium ownership feel. Since the price jump over the Vivid variant is not extremely large, many buyers may find the additional features worth paying extra for.

Key Differences:

  • Gets Bluetooth-enabled TFT instrument console

  • Supports navigation and smartphone connectivity

  • More premium overall features package

Which Variant Should You Buy?

The choice between the Harley-Davidson X440 Vivid and S variants mainly depends on how important connected technology features are to you.

The Vivid variant already offers most of what makes the X440 appealing in the first place. It gets the same engine, same suspension setup, same brakes and nearly identical styling as the higher variant. If you simply want a relaxed retro roadster with strong low-end torque and Harley-inspired styling, the Vivid variant feels more than sufficient.

However, the S variant adds a noticeably more premium feel because of the TFT display and Bluetooth connectivity features. If you regularly use navigation while touring or prefer smartphone integration, you may find the extra equipment genuinely useful in everyday riding.
