T’puram: CPM brass has refused to renew the party membership of Bineesh Kodiyeri, son of former party state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. CPM had frozen Bineesh’s membership in 2020, following a narcotics case against him.Bineesh was a party member from 2001 to 2020. Though Bineesh had requested the membership renewal four times, it was rejected every time. Kodiyeri, who was suffering from cancer, stepped down from the party secretary post after Bineesh was arrested in Nov 2020 in Bengaluru in a drug-related money laundering case. The decision to deny renewal of Bineesh’s party membership was made in the CPM Thiruvananthapuram district committee meetings. On Friday, CPM state secretary M V Govindan told reporters that matters like membership renewal are regional issues, which the respective party forums would handle.Bineesh’s arrest had put CPM in a spot after which Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was forced to publicly distance the party from his son’s actions.
