The mother-in-law of Twisha Sharma, who was found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal amid allegations of dowry harassment, allegedly made several phone calls to multiple individuals, including people linked to the judiciary, a day after the 33-year-old’s death, her family claimed. The mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, is a retired additional district judge.
While some of the calls were reportedly made to relatives and acquaintances, others were allegedly made to persons associated with the judiciary, the family alleged, raising suspicions of possible attempts to influence the investigation.
The family further claimed that the individuals who had installed CCTV cameras at the house were also contacted from Giribala Singh’s phone number on May 13.
Twisha’s family has released a list of the phone numbers and demanded a detailed investigation into the call records and communication trail.
Twisha Sharma, a former model who is originally from Noida, was found dead on the night of May 12 at her marital home in Bhopal. Her in-laws claimed that she died by suicide, and a post-mortem report released on Wednesday also confirmed suicide.
However, Twisha’s family, which has accused the in-laws of dowry harassment, has strongly disputed the suicide claim. They alleged that Twisha made distressed phone calls to them on the night of her death, which abruptly disconnected after her husband entered the room.
The family also claimed that her body bore visible bruises and injury marks, suggesting possible physical assault or murder.
As the investigation deepens, the family has demanded a forensic examination of all phone calls made by Giribala Singh, including preservation and analysis of tower locations, IP logs, and other digital records.
They also sought immediate preservation, safe custody, forensic mirror imaging, and sealing of email communications, SMS records, WhatsApp chats, CCTV coordination records, and other critical digital evidence linked to the case.
A case of dowry death and harassment has been registered against her husband, advocate Samarth Singh, and mother-in-law Giribala Singh.
While Giribala has secured bail, Samarth remains absconding. Police have formed multiple teams to trace him and announced a cash reward of Rs 10,000 for information leading to his arrest.
GIRIBALA SINGH TO BE REMOVED AS CONSUMER FORUM HEAD
The Madhya Pradesh government has initiated proceedings to remove Giribala Singh from the post of President of the District Consumer Forum, a position she assumed after retirement. The move by the Food Supply Department comes as she is likely to face prosecution in the Twisha Sharma suicide case.
The Deputy Secretary of the Food Department has written to the Registrar of the State Consumer Commission, seeking an inquiry and an urgent report under sub-rule 9(2) of the Consumer Protection Rules, 2020, which deals with removal from office in serious cases.
Meanwhile, a local court rejected the family’s plea for a second autopsy of Twisha. Her parents had approached the court seeking a fresh post-mortem examination and a police probe, expressing apprehension that individuals connected to her in-laws may have influenced the initial procedure conducted in Bhopal.
In another key development, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said the state government would recommend a CBI probe into Sharma’s death.
