Man wanted for murder held after gunfight in Faridabad

Gurgaon: A 21-year-old murder accused, wanted in connection with a stabbing death outside a hotel on Mathura Road last month, was arrested after a brief encounter with the Faridabad police crime branch in the Bhupani area late Saturday night.The accused, Indra Tyagi alias Pandit, a resident of Delhi’s Molarband area, suffered a bullet injury on his right leg and was admitted to the civil hospital in Faridabad. His condition is stated to be stable, an officer said.Police said the crime branch DLF team received a tip-off that Tyagi was heading towards Ganesh Colony near Bhupani Mod on a motorcycle. The team put up a barricade near Sai Colony on Master Road.According to ACP (Crime-2) Varun Kumar Dahiya, when the police signalled the accused to stop, he attempted to flee and opened fire at them. “Two rounds were fired at the police vehicle and one at ASI Pradeep. Police retaliated, injuring the accused in the leg before overpowering him,” he said.Police seized a country-made pistol, two live cartridges, three empty shells and a Splendor motorcycle from the spot. A fresh case under sections related to attempt to murder and provisions of Arms Act was registered at Bhupani police station.Tyagi was wanted in the murder of one Sachin, who was stabbed to death outside Red Lion OYO Hotel under the Sarai Khwaja police station area on the night of April 9-10.Investigators said the accused was also absconding in another attempt-to-murder case registered at Sector 31 police station for allegedly stabbing two men in Dec last year.
