Hisar: A major disaster was averted in Hisar on Wednesday after an LPG tanker attached to a goods train developed a gas leak near Surya Nagar railway crossing, close to the railway station. Prompt action by railway officials, firefighters, and technical teams helped contain the leak before it could pose a serious threat to residents in the densely populated locality.As soon as the leak was detected around 8 am, railway personnel separated the affected LPG tanker from the freight train — which was travelling from Bathinda in Punjab to Jhajjar — and shifted it to an isolated section near Surya Nagar crossing to minimise risk.According to railway officials, inspection revealed that the leakage was originating from the lid on the upper portion of the tanker. Technical teams from Bathinda and Jind were called in, and after nearly three hours of repair work, the leak was successfully sealed.Officials said the tanker was carrying nearly 37 tonnes of LPG, making the situation highly sensitive. Railway authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the leakage and examine whether any operational or technical lapses were involved. They will also assess the potential risks posed by the incident and identify responsibility, if any.Railway chief public relations officer (CPRO) Amit Sudarshan said the railway administration acted immediately after receiving information about the gas leak and successfully brought the situation under control without any casualties or damage.
